2020 diesel engine question TimS, others

i'm rebuilding a 4cyl diesel out of a 2020. the old oil pump pick up strainer was damaged so i'm replacing it while i'm in there. dealer said part had been superseded by kit. the new parts replace the back of the oil pump, the strainer, and the oil supply tube to the oil gallery. it does not have a place for the small tube that feeds the lower idler gear. I've called the dealer and they've checked with technical assistance and weren't able to find any info. the service dept is going to look for bulletins. does anyone know if the oil tube for the idler is just not used? it would still be splash lubed. also the replacement block for the rear of the oil pump only has 3 bolt holes and not 4 . the parts drawing clearly shows 4 bolts holes.

. Have you signed onto the free parts book at the JD site and had a look ? You could well do a better job than some of the parts counter people .

actually i was trying to get my shop set up a week ago to order parts and something wouldn't work properly. havent bothered to call jdparts about it. but i look up my
own parts when i call and the part does sub to the part# kit that i received i just want to be sure because the new parts are very different

I viewed the 2020 parts schematic for the engine oil pump. I see no mention of 3 bolts but 4 bolts are shown. What is the part number of the pump kit.

Do you have an engine serial number, looks like the small oil tube was eliminated after engine serial number 058459.

FWIW, yours apparently isn't a "one off" error, even the in-between version of the cover apparently only had 3 bolt holes. (#R53382)

thanks BOB i'm just going to install it with out the small oil tube. looks like to me they'll be enough splash lube to lubricate the lower idler.
there probably was a bulletin about this 40 yrs ago......

Just OH'd a 164 in a late sn# 1530.Oil pump purchased through Reliance and only difference was new pump had 3 mounting holes rather than the 4 holes on original pump, which I drilled the 4th hole in new pump.No small pipe on original pump, just main feed pipe. Thought about heating and bending old feed pipe but but common sense took over.lol

What I found out in service bulletin is the small oil pipe was not used on later engines and is the be discarded when installing the new oil pump kit. Also the reason for only 3 bolt holes vs 4 is because of a clearance issue on some models ( which in my opinion translates Deere figured out how to have one part # fit multiple applications).
