Serial Number Research

Is there such a thing as inputting your tractor serial number into some sort of JD dealer database to figure out where it came from? I've got a 3020 and I have a general idea of where it came from (I know the state) but it would be interesting to know exactly where it lived its life and was serviced-- or even who the original owner was. Is there a JD database that would have that kind of info?

sodly,

you can send off to two cylinder club and get the exact build date and ship to place, then you can ask your local dealer if your serial number pops up anyway, they may or may not do that for you...depends on how well you know them

Total shot in the dark but a few times I have entered a tractor serial number into a google search and came up with various info ranging from previous auction results to previous listings for online sales which can help further narrow down your search.

By any chance can they figure out who bought the tractor from the dealership?

They have new generation and newer info. You just have to pay them to look it up. You will need complete serial number and a credit card. Tom

620 John,

that would depend on the dealership, some kept records, some didnt. Some changed hands after they were bought out, some didnt...just gonna be a hit or miss thing. I think Two Cylinder charges like 35 bucks per search, or "free" if you buy a subscription...

JD corporate made the stupid decision to give the Two cylinder club just about all the information on JD tractors older than 1975. Also even finding information in the modern JD computer system on much of anything older than 1990 is getting sporadic. When they are updating the newer service systems they seem to not accessing the older records. I mean for 40 and 50 series tractors not OLD two bangers.

JD Seller,

you got THAT right....i was able to actually make it to the pavilion during the period of time that deere had those kiosks with the search feature, so i entered in all my serial numbers and took a picture with my phone HAHAHA

I have heard that is long gone now....

319-824-6060 Two Cylinder there will be a charge.I have bought tractors that had their whole history recorded, oil changes repairs and receipts but those are rare cases. Some still have bill of sale and at one time in late 60s they put a complete description of options and F.O.B. price to that dealer. I still remember I bought a new 69 4020D with factory cab no A/C it was $10,694 dollars I think I gave $3000 and a nice open station 67 4020 and it seems like $3000 even.
