Well I finally figured out the pto on the 5020 there is a pto disconnect lever on the floor board of the cab someone had turned that lever to the disconnect position flipped it the other way and the pto started working again I don?t Know why they would put a disconnect lever in the system but they did . I wish the publishers of i&t would try just a little harder to make their manuals Easier to use the information Is usually in there it?s just finding it and putting it together so you can actually use it . The factory manual is worth the money just for the description of how the various systems work and all the information is grouped so you can find it

IIRC those tractors have a weak PTO driveline in them. So don't use them on heavy loads like tub grinders and such. Don't remember for sure ? maybe the dry clutch was the weal link ?

. People here are repeatedly told that the I&T manual is best used to prop open doors or to seat bugs with.
Call Sharps for reprints or 1-800-522-7448 for a real operator’s and service manual.
How much time and money was saved by purchasing the cheapest manual ?

I know of a farmer that repowered one with a V8 Detroit and ran a JD 3960 chopper with 3 row head. Ran in 5th gear and to my knowledge he never had any PTO problems.

Local guy here used one on a tub grinder for mulch. Could never get it to hold up. Maybe it was a 5010 ? got rid of it and bought another tractor that worked fine. I remember at that time of hearing they were weak on the pto. Worked at Deere dealer back then. They repaired it several times for the guy.

I already had the i&t manual I bought it years ago
when someone stole my set of factory manuals I
had for a 4020 . I really didn?t want to buy another
manual for this 5020 unless I had to because i
wasn?t sure how far we were going to go into this
tractor . Believe me when we decide to tear into this
thing to do an engine overhaul In the next few years
the factory manual will be purchased all states ag
parts has a factory reprint for 50$ When I bought
the i&t The cheap factory reprints weren?t available
like they are now

Question on 5020s.According to my literature 5020s were made from 1966/72.The 6030 also began production in 1972 by the numbers there were 513 72 5020s and 549 6030s.Question: I see the one in the picture has the Stolper JD factory roll gard cab put on some 68 but usually found on 69/70 models. The 6030 had the Hinsen JD factory roll gard cab until 1977. What cab was on 72 5020s?There weren't very many 5020s in our area as they were heavy and needed more power which 6030 delivered. Thanks! Always a question why 6030 didn't have sound guard cab ,were all syngros, and I don't think any 5020s or 6030 ever had the HFWA which was on 4630 at that time even though it was not a great setup they are collectable now on 20 series just starting on 30/40 series.I assume A/C was offered but one pictured doesn't have it.

My Brother went to the factory in February of 1976 to pick up our new 4630,,he saw 6030's with sound gard cabs moving new tractors out of the factory to the parking lots.

The 1971 and 1972 5020s had hinson's and dimmer switch. They are not very common because turned up 4620 or 7020 would have beaten the 5020...
Why would you still buy that non turbo tractor ?

I agree with you on the sg comment. If I were to put a sound guard on one, I would definitively also put an 8630 or 4840 hood on it to make it similar to the Kinze 5050.
