JD G Oil Slinger Question

Is the oil slinger/spacer behind flywheel on a G supposed to have groves on the face that goes against the main bearing housing? There is a groove on the outer edge that I know is supposed to be there. My G started to labor at fast idle with no load. I shut it down right away. After checking everything and cooled down restarted it with no issues. To be on the safe side I wanted to check things more thoroughly. I found that some of the bearing babbit next to slinger was peeled out. That cork o-ring had gotten hot. (Dark color and smelled burnt) Turned crank 3-4 revolutions with oil coming out around bearing. So not an oiling problem. The crank looks good. Need new bearing. What can cause this to happen? Can flywheel be put in too far onto crank? Tractor has been running for the past 3 years with no problems.

Yes flywheel can be put on too far and you will not have proper crank end play and can bind it up.

When you put the cover that goes around the seal and slinger back on make sure you center it on the crank shaft. Use a feeler gage and check it before tightening it down.

(quoted from post at 10:39:36 01/11/19) There is a spiral groove on the face for oil to work outward but the surface is flat and smooth on the spacer and main bearing. End play should be .005-.010
10 thou is better than 5 thou
