hello, working on a DLTX dual throat carb. on a JD- 50 tractor. soaked & cleaned as best we can, tractor surges real bad at lower speeds unless you run half choke. must we take the small steel balls out to clean those hidden passages?

Yes, you will need to remove those steel balls to clean the passages to make it idle.

hello, THANKS MARK,, that's what i was thinking. tractor was sitting around outside for a few years, we had never heard it run, next time i get to it, i wanted to spray carb cleaner at the intake manifold to see if there is an intake leak.

Chances are the throttle shaft and bushings are worn causing the surging. I have found very few that ever needed passages cleaned.
