John Deere L governor

(quoted from post at 09:19:22 01/10/19) How hard of a job is it to replace the governor on a John Deere L with a Hercules engine? Thanks, Mark

The governor assembly is held to the engine by 2 bolts, remove them and the linkage and the governor is free of the engine.

After replacing, verify that the governor-to-carb linkage is set to the correct length, simply put, the carb lever should reach it's "end of travel" in the "wide open" direction just BEFORE the governor arm does.

If I may ask, what is wrong with the governor, and do you have a known-good replacement?

Hi Bob, right now the tractor either idles or wants to run wide open there?s no in between. I have talked to Steve Ridenour and he said it sounds like the governor. He knows of a man that rebuilds them. Thanks for your help, Mark
