Ive read a topic on this awhile back but cant find it but my quill housing is leaking. Can you pull the quill out on one side without letting the gears and shaft fall down on the differential or can you pull it out maybe a half inch or so to put some permatex in there? I just got one side that is leaking and want to fix the one side. Thanks.

I've done several in the past. You can pull it off and get it back on. I think I removed the brake assembly anyhow for more room ? and with that off I think if needed you can shove a pry bar in there and push the diff. if needed to help start the bearings.

Only thing different that what Mike does, is that I put the tractor in gear and lock opposite brake if removing the brake by quill. Just slowly remove quill to keep something from moving, then replace paper shims/gasket with new and then use a sealant to help.

Thanks. I already have one brake housing removed to put on new liners on the brakes and was wanting to fix the leak while I had that side off. The quill is leaking on one side .
