My 3010 is overheating. I used it on a wood splitter for about an hour last week - it seemed to pull down a bit then poured out steam. Shut everything down and after it cooled off I took off the hood thinking it was the top hose. The hose is ok. I filled up the radiator and then ran it a while. Saw no leaks until it got warm, then it started to leak around the cap. Do you think this is the thermostat? How hard is it to change that? Also - the temp gage does not work - is that hard to replace while I have this apart? Not sure what I am doing, would appreciate guidance. Thanks!!

(quoted from post at 12:22:49 01/06/19) Sounds more like a combustion leak into the coolant to me.

Ditto when engine is 1st started remove radiator cap look inside radiator neck for tiny bubbles which would indicate compression getting into cooling system from leaking head gasket, cracked head or leaking cylinder liner/o-ring

3010 has one,,,4010 has two,,and most likely it's not the thermostats causing this....

Could be a poorly maintained cooling system . Changing the gauge on those Is simple as well just follow the line coming out of the back of the gauge to where it goes in the head unscrew it and screw the new one in and mount the new gage

I was hoping for better ideas - like "sure a new thermostat will fix you right up!!". Do you have any suggestions on how to diagnose? Someone suggested starting with the cap open and looking for bubbles? I have not checked the oil - but am hoping there is no water there. Thanks. If I was closer I would haul it to your shop!!
