JD 430 Question

I picked up a nice little 430. It had no battery, but I am thinking it would have a 6v with Positive Ground? Would that be correct? Thanks - Bob

That is what they were originally. What it is now is anybody's guess. Alternator or generator?

The generator if still there should have a tag unless missing or rusted over saying the voltage. Alternator should be 12V. It is possible somebody threw a 12V generator on it.

"The generator if still there should have a tag unless missing or rusted over saying the voltage."

To add to what "NY" said, if a Delco generator 9as it would have left the factory with), if the original 6 Volt unit, it will have a "black" tag.

If, by some chance it had has been "upgraded" to a 12 Volt Delco generator, it will have a "red" tag.

A six volt battery won't blow anything up. Odds are slim that someone slipped a 12V generator on there.
What is the make and model of the ignition coil and is there a ballast resistor ?

Here is a picture of the generator. I would assume it to be original, but who knows.

Note the subtitle [b:654c4848f0]Delco-Remy No. 1101859[/b:654c4848f0].

The number indicates that it is the correct OEM generator.

It could possibly be the generator originally installed at the factory.

Hope this helps.

It appears to be a 6V. Thanks to all for your input. There was no battery in it, but I was pretty sure on the Pos ground as well as the 6v, but had to buy a battery and didn't want to get the wrong one. Thanks again - Bob

Note the battery is POSITIVE ground.

Hope this helps.
