will jd 40 handle woods rm59 mower

Not sure how big the mower is. You definitely should have an overriding clutch in the pto shaft or you may tear out the PTO on tractor in addition you won
't be able to stop it or shift gears.

Depends on what gear you want to pull it in...
RM59 was basically a 60" cut, correct?
We pulled a 60" single spindle Woods mower with our 420 just fine in 3rd gear. But a finishing mower in heavy (thick) or tall grass will pull harder. Definitely use an overrunning clutch adapter. First time you step on the clutch pedal to stop the tractor, without the overrunning clutch the mower will just keep pushing the tractor...
Make sure you shorten the mower PTO shaft to account for the overrunning clutch.

59'' just shy of 5' i know i would need one for a bush hog but i ran one with a kubota that didnt have live pto and it didnt seem to have enough cintrifigal force to hurt anything.

thanks for the advise. got a zero turn i could mow with but have to convince the wife that all the tractors i accumulate have a purpose that i cant do without, but i think she is on to my plan. you cant have too many old tractors!!!!!!!!!

I'd sure second that. I have a next door neighbor with a commercial version of the JD zero turn. Wow, is that thing noisy. I can't get figured out if the blade is more noisy than the engine, or vice versa! I'd sure rather be listening to the MT I sold not too long go - downsizing you know.

I ran one of those with my 40w. It did the best job in 2nd gear. There was a problem with the front gauge wheels hitting the rear tractor tires when I lifted the mower more than 6", so I had to remove them. You will need to figure out sway bars for the unit.

I ran a 5 foot landpride with my JD M and it worked really nice. My engine seems to be in good shape too. I did not use an overrunning clutch as my brakes work good and the M hitch and pto is weird configured. A overrunning clutch would be a good addition if you have room to add it.

My dad bought a couple of Toro zero turns from the local dealer. The mower decks were a lot more noisy than the engine. Like a dry bearing...

What-ever....if ya think so, use it..

With many years of experience, NOT Necessary what so ever..

Now, a PTO CLUTCH is a worthwhile addition..IF you know how to prepare it each year..
