I have a John Deere 2030 that has a leaking fuel tank it has been repaired by a radiator shop once already, I am looking at the new plastic tanks and wanted to ask if anyone has tried one.

Trooper,

is it part number AR72996?

I had to replace the one in my 400 when i got it but lucked out and found a parts 350 with a good tank, but when i priced them they were flat out expensive. Sorry i am not much help, but if thats the one you are looking for i can give you a few places to call for a steel one if you wanted to check.

Yes that is the right part # I would be interested in finding a steel one if you can offer some suggestions, Thanks

if this link works:

https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/search/type/parts/term/AR72996

that shows all the model tractors that came out with that fuel tank, cooks tractor in clinton mo, and

https://www.abilenemachine.com/ in ks.

when you call any of them, make sure you have the deere part number, and tell them you have a list of tractors it could have come out in.

Look man, if you've already got a steel tank take it to a competent welding shop. Have them look at it and see if they can fix it or not. If they can, then have them fix it and coat it with a covering of KREEM tank sealer. I've used this on so many tanks I can't count. It's not super expensive and it well worth the investment.

Good chance another pin hole opened up ? Not too hard to solder them. Hard part is removing them !

Just went through the same thing on one. There are a few machines that tank was used on. All the sources that list those plastic tanks said to stay away from them, trouble with the seam leaking.

Couldn’t find a good tank when I needed one so I fixed the one I had.

The bottom looked like someone shot it with birdshot after I cleaned it. Tinned the whole bottom with solder, laid copper screen over it and floated solder over the entire bottom and then coated it.

Forgot to mention that the plastic fuel tank on my 2010 9670 combine got a small leak from sitting over last winter. The very small leak was at a 90 degree bend by the chopper lift cylinder indentation. One day to remove it and one day to install the new one and $1915.87 later, no diesel on the shed floor.
