Rusty wheel

With an 810A 3 bottom plow behind a 530 does the plow need a gauge wheel to keep it from going too deep? Many thanks in advance.

No you only need the guage wheel with the 801 hitch on the A&B as well as the 50,60,70. The 20 and 30 series tractors had built in draft control. Tom

The ploughing job will look better with a gauge wheel. The plough will hold closer to desired depth over ruts, tracks, humps and hollows.

On my farm I have yellow sand, red clay, black loam, blue clay, and a black salve stuff I don't know what to call. And I can't hold an even depth with out gauge wheels. so unless you have even flat bottom land with no dips or raises, I don't see how you can hold even plow depth. And I have been plowing since 1954. I also have fifteen different plows that all have gauge wheels except the trailer plows. And the best that hold depth for me is the three wheeled trailers. and the ones that pull the easiest for me are the mounted ones with gauge wheels and the tractor has depth-control. john

That is going to be a FULL Load for a 530 in tip-top condition, newer tires and Plenty of weights or loaded tires..!!

Our 1952 JD "B" tractors had Loaded rear tires and still showed some slip..and that was with only a pull-type 2x14"..!!

But, the 810 is Mounted, you will have front weight on it to be able to drive it when transporting..

Guess some people say the same, when I say we used 2 WD-45 AC's with 4x14" Semi-Mounted..they seem to doubt it...but we never had any trouble..always 2nd gear, sometimes steering them with the Brakes..a full FOOT of Blue Flame steady above the muffler..!

Hope yours works the same..!!

Around here ( Central Ohio), you must watch the field conditions and know the soil..

My Black Wax plows like cinders IF it is wet...your tires will leave Rubber on the ground if the soil has dried too much..

My Grandad said you should "Chase Water down the furrow" in that soil..!!

I had an "All-Fuel" JD 60 and it would ONLY pull my 810 in Granny Gear...!!!

They must have been rated for only 2-14"..!!
