A few questions about my 60

Many people remove the plug in the fan shaft & install a grease fitting, give it 5 or 10 pumps a year.
That is a ventilation pump at the rear of the fan shaft, it pumps crank case fumes / pressure back up to
intake system.
You shouldn't have to remove the fan shaft if your replacing the radiator core.

The pipe plug that you're wondering about is meant to be removed about once a year and replaced with a grease fitting. A few shots of grease pumped in and then left alone. Many tractors never get grease added there - I'm guilty of failing to grease that spot faithfully. The last time I greased my 50, after I overhauled the engine last winter, it rewarded me with specks of grease slung around the fan area. Too much grease, obviously.

The small tube could be called a crankcase ventilator tube. The large tube contains the fan drive shaft.

If you remove the fan shaft support while working on your radiator, take note of the shims under the support. They should be replaced exactly as you found them.

Oh okay thanks RLA. I wondered what purpose it served. Maybe that's why the big air intake tube that's in front of the radiator has got soot on it? I'll replace that plug in a few days.

Just leave the zirk fitting in there and only about 2 pumps/year is plenty...

No need to put the pipe plug back in..

The two pipes provide what is called PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation)today. The rear pipe near the governor housing has a vane type pump driven off the fan shaft. Which pumps fresh air from the breather into the crankcase from the fan shaft tube.
