John Deere 46 Loader

Thanks in advance for any advice or personal experience you might have.
For a long time now I have been thinking of putting a loader on my 520.
I could go with a 45 but getting gray on the sides and sparse on top
I would like a loader frame I could still mount the tractor from in front of
the rear wheel. I would like to know if a 46 or 46A can be mounted on
my 520? Thanks again

For questions like that , even the John Deere wizards have to consult the parts book rather than trust the memory. There are so many variations of mounts, tractors and loaders . Then there are low pressure and high pressure hydraulic cylinders for some loaders .
A loader with double acting cylinders do not demand as more hydraulic oil storage .
There is a free parts book on the JD website that should list the 46, it ‘s various mounts and options . I would look it up but am currently on my phone instead of the computer .
It will be I tersring to know what fits .

Thanks allot for your reply B&D I appreciate it.
I looked through the parts book for the 46 and did not
see any mention of a kit to mount the loader on a two cylinder
tractor. In poking around on the internet I saw a picture of
a 46 on a 50 and one on a 430. Perhaps with some work brackets
could be made but I would be more worried about the low pressure
hydraulics of a 520 not being enough with the high pressure cylinders of a 46?
Perhaps I will have to settle for a short line loader with
a kind of universal mounting. B&D I am very sorry for the loss of your
dog Champ. It is a sad day indeed when we loose such a special friend.
Thanks again

. Larry Thank You for your kind words and condolences .
For the past few days Champ was particularly insistent for attention, petting, truck rides etc . My eldest was in the general area and decided to detour home to see the work on the new kitchen . Champ was super excited to see Blake, Shana and the baby. They played fetch and he ran around with surprising speed and grace for a dog half of his 15 years. Blake and Shana left and Mrs B&D drove in 1/2 an hour later . Champ was laying dead on his favourite napping spot but was still warm. Champ waited to say his goodbyes to the eldest boy then laid down and died .
Champ our border collie was a fine dog and loved by all . People driving down the road would slowdown or stop to watch him rolling a pail across the lawn and then balance it on his nose . I don’t know where or how he came up with the idea all by himself .
I attempted to post the same message her earlier but the system blocked the message .
Champ seemed to understand just about every word of the English language . If he wasn’t rounding something up or herding it . He was busy catching rodents , attacking coyotes and watching over all . Or He was figuring out ways to guilt us into truck rides, coax us into giving him a treat of cheese and LP oking to be petted .
The first two years were not all fun and games . He was just so darned smart that he kept finding new ways to get into trouble . We got through it however and he was worth the work and aggravation. If he had been born with opposable thumbs and a fully developed larynx . He could have kept up with a six year old child .

IIRC the only later model JD loader built after models 45 & 45W to fit Waterloo built 2 cylinder tractors was a model 48. But with the aid of a cutting torch & welder any loader can be made to fit. I wouldn't be worried about utilizing higher pressure cylinders on a 2 cyl tractor but would be concerned about utilizing a cylinder designed for low pressure on a tractor with 2000+ hyd pressure. The model 48 loader designed for a 2 cyl tractor mounted all the way back to rear axle housings.

Thanks to all for the thoughts and ideas being put forth.
That is exactly what I want is a loader frame that goes
all the way to the rear axels. Mike, I do have a 2630
with a 145 loader that has served me well for many years
but is way over kill on the 8 acres where we live now. The 2630
sits in the shed almost all the time now with not much of anything to do.
Thanks Jim for that information about the 48 loader. I have two
520s and for what little I use a loader a 520 could do. I build
hydraulic dump wagons and could use the shed room that the 2630
occupies if I sold it. With the down market on tractors I maybe
missed the boat already to do the downsizing. B&D ,Baxter Black
who is a western writer and story teller has done some very good
ones about the high intelligence of a Border Collie mixed with
lots of good humor. Thank you everyone

Keep the 2630 and use it ! It is not any more over kill than a 520 would be with a loader. As far as size and weight. The 2630 will be WAY more maneuverable and lift more ! After running a 2630 with a loader you surly will not be happy with one on a 2 cyl. At least I sure do not see why you would be ? I have ran them all plus a 4020 with a 158 and a 5105 with a 521 loader. which we have both now. The newer the tractor the more you get spoiled with how convenient they are to operate.
