John Deere 60 clutch driver update

Installed the new clutch driver from STP this morning and am disappointed to say the end of the crank seems to be to blame. I scraped off a little more of the JB weld and could see quite a bit of wear. I put the clutch back together and the gear overhangs the crank, but just barely. As it is, the clutch seems to snap in and out okay. Can I use the tractor like this for a few years or am I kidding myself? I would rather not tear the engine down right away. Thanks,

Pete

Pete, have you tightened it down yet in those photos? I know the bolt is not in place, but I wonder if you tightened it then removed the bolt for the picture. The driver has to be proud on the crankshaft when tightened.

yes I tightened the bolt down and removed it to take a look at the overhang

I've seen heavy washers that had the center turned out so that when tightened the crank could protrude past and still work. As a last resort before tearing the tractor down to replace
the crank, try welding the splines up and with a good file you can straighten them back up. Beats the alternative.

Yes, the Key is there MUST be NO relative motion between the clutch driver and the Crankshaft splines..

JB Weld may well hold up in there...
