I've had my 4010 for a few years was told when I bought it from a private party it was one of the last 4010 but had a 4020 engine.
I know there is a timing difference between the 4010 and the 4020.
Had the injector pump rebuilt twice. First time they did not put the shaft seal in correctly and dumped gallons of diesel in the oil pan. When this happened I shut down immediately. The second time i took the injector in, told them to check to make sure everything from the previous build was done right. Got the injector back and has somewhat been working. I took the injectors in to be rebuilt this last summer because they were slobbering. Neither the pump or the injector rebuilds corrected the clattering and I frequently change filters and installed two new fuel pumps. When it clatters I get more excessive blue/white smoke after starting or on load.
Any ideas would be appreciated before rebuilding the engine.

Never heard of a 4010 coming with a 4020 engine.
Are you getting engine oil into your intake manifold?

Need more info, what pump number do you have? The 4010 original pump had no advance, but most have been updated with advance and timing is different. The 20 series timed at TDC, but 3010 and 4010 never did unless the 20 series pumps is used.

When 4010's were O/H'ed 4020 piston/liners were installed which "Kinda" made them a 4020 engine,,4020's have 4 bolts per side where the frame meets the front engine mounts,,4010's had 2...if your's has 2 bolt holes hidden under the side frame it's a 4020 block.

Already know that, I wanted to have him tell us what pump number he actually has. Stock no advance 4010 is 14 BTDC, with advance kit is 8 BTDC, and 4020 is TDC. The pump number would help confirm what it needs to be.
