Mounting tires

Im in the process of painting the rims. I spent several days sand blasting them with a 12 gal compressor. I need to get a larger capacity compressor.

Can i mount the tires by hand or sill they need to be machine mounted? I dont want the rims scratched to keep them from rusting.

I take it you're talking about the rear rims, they mount pretty easy with a rubber hammer, you shouldn't have to use a bar on them.Put something between the rim and
the floor to protect it when you start.

Sorry front tires

I always did them that way on my tractors. Lay cardboard down on the floor to set rim on, lube up tires good and carefully use tire spoons as needed.

I just did two front tires on my Oliver 60 and tried something different this time which worked well I thought. I primed the rims and painted the back side.
and then I mounted tires
And tubes but didn't air them up. I cut card board to fit around the rims and placed it between the tire and the rim and painted. Let it dry and aired them
up. Worked well for me.

Painted rims first then mounted tires. Hand painted over the nicks and scratches before inflating tires. Like this:

I use plenty of powdered Talc when mounting Tube-Type Tires or changing tubes..Seldom if ever pinch a tube and the tire slips on easy and DRY...!

Yes, dusty, but not bad...!!
