destroke valve question

I recently had a hard start issue and turned in the screw on the hydraulic pump that destrokes it on my 301A. I guess if i have to do this then i have a leak in my pump or could it be because i have a leak on fitting on my loader?

Could be a leak anywhere in the high pressure hydraulic system, pump, steering, brakes, remote valves (if so equipped), loader valves, etc..

Brakes on JD utility tractor of this era are not in high pressure circuit but are in trans pump(low pressure) circuit & IMHO brakes shouldn't affect engine starting.

I do have a leaky hydraulic fitting on my loader and cant get to it easily and will tackle it when i have time. This valve could cause the hard start because its not letting pressure build?

"Jiggle" the steering wheel and it will start,,it's not easy getting to the destroke valve...
