destroke solenoid kit

Okay, so i found a solenoid, and manifold that i am gonna use, however, i have never been down this road before so, i am gonna ask....

based on the picture i have provided, do i have the correct pressure and return side located for the destroke kit?

if i have all this correct, i will post the part numbers and where i bought them, and currently, i am into this test for around 70 bucks...

Yes it appears you have the correct orifices marked in your photo. $70 is really cheap especially compared to what JD asks for the electric DS kit. RE40463 @ $843.25

Thanks for confirming what i was thinking Tx Jim.

I started breaking down that kit and called a hydraulic shop and told them what i wanted and wanted to do and they set me up. Im thinking i will be all in at around 110 bucks. Solenoid, cartridge, manifold, hopefully only two hydraulic fittings and two hoses.

Once i have this put on and tested out i will post part numbers for all of the parts and a picture of its final install.

I am wondering how i want to mount it and how i want to run hydraulic lines since that cover sits over the top of the pump and i dont want to punch to many holes in that. i have never tore into one of those pumps, but i am wondering, can that front plate be turn counterclock wise 90 degrees?

You're welcome. I think in another hyd pump thread Tim S stated the cover could not be rotated & pump operate correctly.

Are you going to use the R terminal to energize the solenoid, that's what I did on a LP 4020, been that way for 5 years. Can't remember if that's what the kit suggested to do or not. chris

Tx Jim, maybe TimS will chime in here, i was sure hoping that i could get away with turning it, would make it a lot easier.

Matthies, i dont know what you mean by R terminal, but i am going to test with a switch, then once i know for sure i will probably jump off the ignition switch with a small relay then pull the 12vdc through it.

A typical Delco starter solenoid of the era has two small terminal studs, clearly labeled "S" and "R". (Example photo below.)

When the key switch or starter button sends power to the "S" terminal the solenoid pulls in and activates the starter AND a separate connection is made inside the solenoid cap the sends power OUT the "R" terminal, originally intended to provide a bypass around an ignition ballast resistor during starting.

If you are working with a diesel, that terminal will be unused and can be used to active the destroke solenoid.

If doing the same thing with a gasser that won't work as there will be ignition power on that terminal after startup.

Should be no problem, though, with either a diesel or a gasser simply connecting the destroke solenoid to the "S" terminal. IMHO.

Matthies & Bob,

OH! i didnt realize you were taking about the starter solenoid. Duh....honestly i hadnt even thought about coming off of that, that very well may be what i do then.

Thanks for asking that question and the reply, should make my life easier on that.

Matthies, did you end up plumbing holes through that pump cover plate? I was hoping i could find shallow fittings to keep it all under that cover and then put a bracket on the solenoid and bolt it onto that front pump cover.

tlock sorry about being so vague, thanks to Bob all is well. No I drilled a hole for the side port. Either way I had to drill a hole and think I used an existing hole to mount the solenoid valve on the deflector for the oil cooler, side console 4020 propane burner. I would like to do this to my brothers other 4020 lp early model, once you get the parts listed. I went through all the hyd's on the late tractor and couldn't get it to turn over any faster(just enough leakage from age), valve made that a go to tractor now.
