Just installed electromagnetic clutch back on 4400 John Deere combine after having it off to replace bearing on counter shaft and now head runs as soon as you engage separator any ideas on what I did wrong and could it damage clutch running it

Did you measure the bearing distance from the end of the shaft???? You have to set it at the right place and then adjust shims to have the correct clearance on the electric clutch.

Yes they need a bit of clearance, I have changed more Primary counter shaft bearings than I want to think about,, I always measured from the end of the shaft to the counter shaft bearing first then tryed to make it all go back the same way. First make sure there is no power going to the clutch,,if that proves out pull the big pulley and see what you need to do to obtain some clearance at the clutch, a machine washer works most of the time, you want enough clearance so that it don't make sparks when disengaged..

I wasn?t aware I needed too, the bearing sits in housing and is non adjustable and as far as I know I put all shims back like they where. It?s makes a howling noise not bad but noticeable when you engage separator so I guess need more shims obviously. How do you go about shimming it correctly I just tried it a minute ago kinda smelt like something getting warm. Thanks again for everyone?s advice

Thanks again for all of your all?s help, checked clutch it requires.015 gap it was alright ended up being bearing needing to be slid back I ended up tightening everything up then tightening lock collar last after installing clutch.
