4440 PTO Turns with lever off

4440 PTO turns with the lever in the off position. Not just a slow turn either. If i push the clutch in and hold it down for 3-5 seconds the pto will stop turning. I am going to check pressures this morning and try and see what is happening. Any thoughts or experiences? Thank you

Powershift? My brother inlaw has warped the clutches several times in his 4040 powershift causing it to not stop. They usually do it when trying to unplug the chopper or round baler. Tom

Check to be sure there's no dirt/debris around control linkage on
clutch valve housing. Due to the fact that traction clutch & pto clutch have separate operating pistons so operation of each shouldn't affect the operation of the other function.

Jim, IIRC, depressing the foot clutch causes "lube reduction" to the transmission clutch to lessen drag, I ASSUME it dumps PTO clutch lube, as well???

Well I have a new problem now. I was trying to warm up the hydraulic oil to check clutch pressures. I had my inline flow rater in the #1 scv
couplers with the needle valve all the way out. It will run for 30 seconds or less and it will start jumping all around with the flow
dropping. I checked screen, it had some clutch material on it. I changed the filter. Ran it again and the same deal. I suppose i need to
check my trans pump flow and main pump flow.

"it had some clutch material on it"

It's more than likely BRAKE material, IMHO.

Yes and pull the sump screen,,it's probably full of trash,,,Your clutch oil pressure has probably been low and the action of using the clutch pedal was causing the issue with the PTO brake, when ever the trans pump flow is restricted a weird chain of events start to happen...
