Is there any other way to ID A John Deere A? Marks on the block, axle, etc? Trying to find the first reduction gear has been a pain. Have no clue what the serial number is because it’s worn off.

Looks like a 1950 model to me, did you happen to take the number off of the gear, fr cover, or the bearing cover on the reduction cover and look at jdparts.com and maybe match it to a serial number range?

I did the gear and it said not available. The number that I got near the spindle is A3695R and on the ring is A4027. I bought a gear up in Nebraska and that is A12R near the splines and A1690R on the ring, the ring gear is to small but it fits on the shaft fine.

It has a steel serial number tag on it so it is a 51 or 52. The last tractors were affected by material shortages during the Korean War. Does it have a water pump or the bushing style main bearings.

On the right rear axle; A3270R. The transmission housing; A4000R. The cover for the transmission; A3384R. The shifting cover plate; A4009R (not sure on that one).

Not that I can tell.

From what the I&T shop manual says (page 26 Fig. JD81), I do not have a water pump. So the tractor isn’t a 1952. Looking at the belt pulley cover (page 28, Fig. JD96. “Exploded view of series A prior 648000 and B prior 201000 belt pulley and clutch assembly”).
