John Deere 2840 Clutch

Dad was using his 2840 yesterday to load manure and everything was going fine...put it in neutral and set the parking brake to get out and go move another tractor.

When he got back in, he couldn't get it into gear. Shut tractor off, restarted and was able to get it into gear and back into shop.

Tried adjusting clutch to no avail. If it's started in gear, tractor moves whether clutch is depressed or not.

Dad's not sure what to do and I'm 80 miles away... Are we looking at new clutch or bigger problems? Of course it's got a loader and a cab on it.

Talked to Dad a little more.

With clutch pushed in, he can shift into H, L, R just fine (left shifter). If it's idled doen, he can jam it into gear, but it just takes off weather clutch is pushed in or let out.

When you say cab......does it have the factory SGB cab?....may have a hydraulic clutch with slave cylinder vs. A mechanical linkage on open station tractors. If so, check fluid level in master cylinder. A 3140 sold here in Canada is of the same vintage as a 2840 and may have a SGB.

No SGB was offered on a 2840 so no clutch master cylinder to check
