60 JD PTO oil

Is the PTO oil also an 80w90 oil like the rear diff? Also should a GL 4 be used instead of a GL 5 ?
Thanks

Someone else will chime in who knows more than I do. But, the PTO does NOT take trans lube--it will rot the facings off of the PTO clutches-assuming you have live PTO. I think 10 W oil was prescribed
for yours, but that's hard to get now and I'm sure other oils may work. I stocked up on 10W about 8 yrs ago and still have some.

Come on, someone who actually knows step up and help this chap!

Wet clutches and wet brakes require wet clutch compatable oil . GL1, GL4 & GL5 are not wet clutch compatible and as previously stated will ruin the clutch friction material .
These gear oils are also much too viscous and will cause overheating .

The 10W is also recommended for the Model 70.

Take a look at the information below.

Hope this helps.

I've got 10-30 in mine. No problems - hard to have any when you don't use the PTO other than to turn it on twice a year ! ;^)

I usually use Hy-Gard due to the fact I have it on hand anyway and it works fine. I've also gotten to using SAE 50 engine oil in the transmissions of these tractors with live pto. If a seal goes out and the transmission oil gets into the pto clutch the SAE 50 oil will not ruin the pto clutch disks. It is the same viscosity (or very near it) to SAE 90 gear lube. Mike
