Adjusting a clutch on an M

We just brought an M home yesterday and was adjusting the clutch. It turns counter clockwise but won't turn clockwise. Now we have way too much travel. Any ideas?

Are you sure you are turning the adjustment screw within the jam nut, and not just the jam nut? Try loosening the jam nut, then while holding the jam nut with a wrench try to turn the adjustment screw clockwise with a screw driver. Sometimes they can be stubborn, some penetrating oil may help.

On a M I have the adjusting bolt broke loose in the throw out collar. Of course I didn't find this out until I attempted
to adjust the clutch after I reinstalled the engine. Early models had tin throw out collar that held the throw out bearing.
Later ones used a cast steel type.. I re welded mine but picked up used cast steel type. I could give the tractor more free
travel but not less free travel. Only way to get there is to split the tractor...
