tractor battery recomendations

I was going to start the jd 2510 and just got a click. I tested the batteries and one is bad. I always replace both and have had decent luck with JD's Hibernator batteries. The closest jd dealership no longer carries jd batteries. They carry Interstate. I asked and they want the exact same money as a jd battery. My opinion is if I'm going to be price gouged with jd prices it had better say jd right on it. That way I can be certain I was gouged. The next closest dealership said they no longer make Hibernator batteries. They only have the cheaper version of jd batteries. I think they were called Performance. So what does everyone else run? I only have one dealership chain in the area now.

I like the John Deere batteries because the local John Deere dealer, Pape Machinery, doesn't add the electrolyte until the battery is purchased.

My battery man says all batteries are made in Mexico now. I don't know just going by what he said . I have Interstate batteries in everything now. Only problems I have had was with the small ones in my Lawnmower and they replaced it free.

A friend of ours works at an Exide plant and they make the Interstate battery to Interstate specs. They also make John Deere batteries. He remarked "I put the labels on them". I don't know if they make ALL of them, but at least some. Another interesting tidbit passed along: They test the batteries to see if they are good or bad as they come off the line. Bad ones are opened and fixed if they don't explode during testing. The ones that are good but "nearly bad" are marked with a grease pencil with a "S" to indicate they should be sold in the southern part of the US. When vendors get them in, they wipe off the "S" on the marginal units.

If I were to get a used car from the "south", I'd sure do a draw down test on it before winter!

I have used both Deere Strong box batteries and others. The Deere last twice as long as the cheap ones and cost twice as much as well. I get mine at my local Farm and Fleet store. I need new ones now for our 2510 and one of the 4020's. With 10 tractors you end up replacing batteries all the time. I just wish the 3ET batteries were made with more than 450 CCA's. Tom

Had a set of Exide commercial grade batteries in my 4020 and they lasted for about 10 years. Out of curiosity, checked the web at Deere and they list the battery for a 4020 as part number TY21733, which crosses to a new number, listed at $184.63 exchange, and as a 620 CCA at 0 degrees F, or 744 CCA at 32 degrees F. Even though they don't show having any on hand, if it is like other parts not on hand they will order with no shipping charges on a regular resupply order which usually only takes 2-3 days. If you want it tomorrow, you pay shipping. Have been buying my batteries at ALLPAK in Salina, and they have several different brands to choose from. Going there tomorrow to get a AGM 12V ($249) for a spare for tractor/truck and to use on a trailer winch.

I liked the hibernator batteries 🔋 . Last fall early winter the 3020 needed a set of batteries and it just so happened bomgarrs was having their 20$ Off battery 🔋 sale making them about 100$ each out the door for 3et they?ve been good so far even left the key on and ran them completely dead a couple times

We have a 1999 JD 7210 tractor and a 2002 7410 tractor. The 7410 is on it?s 2nd set of batteries and the 7210 has its original factory batteries. It also has about 1000 more hours, we use it every day in the winter to chore. Those batteries are 19 years old, when they go out we will replace them with John Deere batteries.

That is some interesting information.it does explain a lot. They probably blame the issues on the heat when they fail.

Ty21733 subs to part number ty24341. My closest dealership says they have 2 available. All they have though is Interstate batteries listed as JD batteries for a JD price. That's the exact same thing I ran into earlier this year when I needed batteries for my 4010. I assume that means I'll jumping in the car and driving further just to get batteries.

I've never heard of Bomgarrs. I looked and the closest location is 170 miles away. Makes for a very expensive battery. I'll probably end up driving to a different dealership than my local one and buy batteries. Most of the places people are recommending here have no location near me. I guess it's one of those times JD has me by the short hairs.

John Deere strong box. I used to buy batteries at Napa and Tractor Supply but they didn't seem to last more than two years. We have a local Interstate dealer and I wouldn't hesitate to put one of those in either. I had a run with Tractor supply where over a year and a half I couldn't get a battery to last 6 months in multiple machines. Put in the JD batteries, not a further issue.

I have a napa about 5 miles from my house. I've never tried their tractor batteries but did try their automotive batteries. I decided then that if napa was the sole supplier of batteries in the world we all better get used to crank starting our vehicles again.

Are there any other tractor dealers of any color near you ? If so I'd see what they stock and could get for you. Any feed stores or repair shops ? maybe if someone who owns those stores or works there happened to own JD tractors ( or old Buick's ) they might have a battery to fit.
Yes old Buick cars used those long skinny batteries. I thought it was a JD only thing and then saw an old Buick that predated the 4010 and it had one in it !

Does that make every battery made in Mexico identical ?

I sure hope that you don't use this guy for financial or relationship advice.

GOSH, Buick, don't leave out Murderapolis Moldine!

They used those silly long and narrow batteries, as well.

Have not seen a Minnie Moe dealer for a long time . There are some CIH dealerships around .
