John Deere A carburetor main nozzle loose

Took apart the carb on my JD A today. Tractor ran ok but idled a little choppy and had a lot of dirt at the bottom of the bowl. During dissassembly the main nozzle just fell out. Now I know there's a spring to keep tension on the nozzle but I have never had the nozzle just pop out like that. I was of the impression that it stayed in as kind of a press fit. Am I safe to put the old one back or do I need a new one? Thanks,

Pete

Yes, you are safe putting it back in as long as you have a spring under it to hold it in place. They are not pressed in, just a snug fit but
loose when properly cleaned.
