Got the old G out for exercise

It is a 1938 that my dad bought new. Generall it will start on second or third roll of the flywheel, if you catch the choke when it pops. I hadn't run it in about 2 years. I always run it out of fuel and leave carb drain open. Some carb gunk got under needle so it flooded. Took carb off and cleaned it up good but then there is all that gas in cylinders that has to burn out before it will start. I did take plugs out and let it sit overnight but not that warm here. 40 wt oil in crankcase so flywheel doesn't roll easy when temps are in the 60s. Finally did get it to start and ran it aound the pasture with shutters closed some to warm it up good. Second day it started great, full choke, 1/2 throttle till it pops, then 1/2 choke to start.

For that very reason ( carb gunk stuck needle ) is why I put some kerosene in the fuel tank and let it fill the carb. and store them that way instead of draining them dry. To get going again, drain out carb. and any in tank and then pour gas in. You will know when it is pure gas draining out. Then fire up as normal. Any kerosene /gas mix you can then burn up in the all -fuel tractors when they are warmed up. So not much wasted.
