JD400 industrial air intake heater

Is there a modification I could make to replace ether to a glow plug for this tractor, take out the plug and find a glow plug to fit threads ? install pushbutton switch to apply for for cold starts ?
thanks

Here's a cold weather starting aid kit JD offered but it's NLA. AL25833

What Jim posted appears to be the diesel burner type however I fail to understand the general aversion to using starting fluid. If used properly it is perfectly safe & as simple as it gets.

An all electric grid heater or a diesel fuel burner inside the manifold ?

One major pitfall for utilizing starting fluid is the people not utilizing the factory installed starting aid device that has an orifice but instead choose to spray ****too much fluid**** directly into air intake!

Wonder if your engine is shot as those were usually good starters ? Any electric around ? if so install a block heater.

The device pictured is called a Thermostart. It works well and is unexpensive to obtain. This was factory installed on a Ford 5000 or Massey tractor of same vintage.
Look yp this older thread: http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=ford&th=466748

All the plumbing in the picture is for the fuel supply. You do not have to make it that complicated, you just have to tee on the thermostart to to the fuel return, while making sure that the fuel return hose goes higher than the tee before going back to tank.

It works very well when it is not super cold, so I would say down to -20F.
I put one on my Massey Harris 55 Diesel (that is know to be a hard starter), and I was able to start it at 20F in 4s of cranking with one battery that has not been recharged for 2 months...
