Hope this goes though, picture of the metal bracket from my service manual

Tractor was running really rough at the local Columbus Day parade. The points were my issue so doing a general tune up and have a brand new coil without the bracket. Since the old coil is still good will just swap out points, condenser, cap and rotor, thanks for the replys

So often its ONLY the points that create ignition problems long before and more often then its a bad coil, so unless you know for sure the coil is bad (requires a true coil HV test NOT just an ohm meter continuity) a new set of proper gapped points may well cure your problem. If a set is only say oxide coated and not badly burned or pitted a good light non harsh abrasive clean/buff/polish may get you going HOWEVER if badly burned or pitted its time for a new set.
