JD350B Reverses hard to move

I have a JD350B that has the reverser lever on the dash. It has been hard to move and would typically loosen up a bit after use after sitting for a couple of months I used it again this weekend and it was exceptionally hard to move the lever. It was a two handed job to slide the thing and hardly loosened up at all. It seems to work fine with the exception of the effort to move the lever. What are the likely culprits? Could it just be a bad cable? I am guessing that I could just unhook the cable at the reverser and see how it moves. Where is the reverser and how do I gain access to check and or replace the cable?

thanks

Actually it is just a JD350. not a B

The reverser is located ahead of the transmission. If you follow the cable you may be able to see where it attaches to the reverser. I think you will need to pull the floor boards to have working access to the reverser end of the cable. It sounds like it maybe just the cable.

Even though your crawler is a JD, you will likely get more views if you post your crawler questions on the Crawlers, Dozers, Loaders, and Backhoes forum.

Jbshocks- I have this same problem and was wondering if it turned out that the cable was the problem? I know this is an old post, hopefully you see this, thanks in advance

Yours might be binding at a different spot than his. Unhook your cable at the reverser and move the shift lever. If it goes hard it is either the cable or shift lever. If the lever has some loose free play before moving than comes up hard I would expect the cable is the problem. In that case the next step is unhook the cable from the lever and see how the lever moves. If both are free the problem would be in the reverser.

Thanks for the reply, it turned out it was the cable, I can breathe easy now!
