5045E Regen

The tractor is a couple of years old, and has about 200 hours on it. It does a regen about every 50 hours or so, but when it does, it gets
very hot, so hot that the paint has burned off the muffler stack. John Deere shop says it is ok. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed
this on their tractor(s).

When it goes into regen it injects extra fuel into the exhaust system to burn the contaminates out of the exhaust filter, what yours is doing is normal.Just as a side note, keep the engine compartment spotlessly clean, the excess heat will ignite grass clippings, leaves, mouse nests, and stems and seeds and take the tractor along with it. A fire extinguisher is a must have, especially if you are bush hogging tall grass and weeds. 30-40% of the recent arrivals at a local tractor salvage yard are burnt almost beyond recognition

I know of a big tractor and square baler that was burnt completly up this summer because of that. They were baling very dusty straw and it was almost a dust explosion. The guy in the cab just had enough time to get out. My son had pics on his phone. Tom
