Old Nebraska City Deere dealer

My dad bought a new 630 in the fall of 1960. He could have bought a new gen but thought those new 4 and 6 cylinder Deere’s were too new and unproven. Anyway, the 630 was bought through a dealer in Peterson Iowa but it had a dealer sticker from a Nebraska City Deere dealership. Do any of you guys from the south of Omaha area remember the name of that dealership?

I can still remember vividly when that 630 came up the lane on the back of a Chevy straight truck. The truck pulled in right before I had to get on the school bus that morning. I don’t think I remembered anything I learned that day in school. All I could think about was that new 630 on the truck. I was nine years old at the time. When I got home from school I went straight to the new 630 and when I climbed aboard I couldn’t figure out what that extra foot pedal beside the clutch lever was for. I finally found out it was the PTO pedal. I was used to the PTO lever beside the seat on the 60 I drove when we baled hay. Now I’m going down memory lane again! He traded in a 1950 B for the 630. He had the B only two years. He claimed the B used too much fuel for the horsepower. I still have the 630 58 years and close to 20,000 hours later. It still starts first time up with no choke but will die in a few seconds if the choke isn’t pulled out, just like it did when it was new.

Always got very inspired by Nebraska City, where that old river boat landing was at the bottom of the hill. I could imagine all the families unloading teams and wagons at the landing, unloading off the river boats, and pulling that long pull uphill to head west for anew life. Very moving to me.

In comparison to what those folks went through we don't know what hardship is.
