jd 830 power steering pump

Is there any fix to a weak power steering pump on a JD830. Have not taken it apart yet but it tests bad and looks to be just a cast iron pump. Can the endplates be remachined?

I've resurfaced them before, but the main problem is the wear in the body section. Welding that up and re boring it to the right clearance for the gears would be a challenge unless you've a pretty good set of machine tools. The last one I rebuilt, I resurfaced the end plates just enough to remove the marks from the gears and used a NOS body section. Make sure you put the seals in correctly. Spring lips facing away from each other, and the inner one with the spring lip towards the inside of the pump (pressure). Make sure the shaft surfaces are smooth. If you can catch a finger nail in the groove, you'll need to source a new shaft, or try to reposition the seals to ride in a different spot on the shaft. Look at the key ways on the shaft too. I've seen those cracked out. Good luck.

Don't know if you can still buy them ? but in years past I replaced the center sections and gears and shafts in many of those pumps.
