M John Deere rear wheel

The right rear wheel on my M John Deere has about 1/4 inch side to side slack when up on a block. How do I fix this problem? Thanks, Hollis Kelton

It might have the cast iron center loose on the axle. If so a good used center may fix it if it hasn't worn the axle too bad.

I also thought the hub might be loose on the axle but it is rusted tight on the axle. Could it be slack between the bearing and race? If so, how do I fix that?

Remove the three planter drive cover bolts on the inside. Tighten the big center bolt that is probably ready to fall out. Smack the outside hub a couple times and retighten. There is a little adjustment with the shims but not that much. If that doesn't work you'll probably have to replace the bearings.
