Glazed Brake Pads on 2510?

Is this possible? The brakes on this tractor when applied feel a little weak. When pressing harder on the pedal, the brakes will lock the the wheels immediately. When the pedal is released, a loud "bang" or "pop" noise comes from the axle housing.

The brake pedals are firm and brakes have been bleed, hydraulic oil meets J20D specifications, filter and suction screen have no sign of brake material or metal on, or in them.

A neighbor mentioned years ago, Deere had an update kit for the brake valve installed on his 3020 and helped with modulation of the pedal pressure. Is there a service bulletin out for this issue?

The only other thing that comes to mind is that the brake pads are glazed and hard and grabbing the brake disc ineffectively. Is this a possibility? I know wet clutch discs will glaze and slip in transmissions.

Thanks for any replies!!

I have never seen Deere brake pads glaze. Is it just one side or is it both? If it is only one side I would switch the lines on the brake valve and see if the problem moves to the other side. If it moves to the other side it is brake valve related. Just went through this with a 3020. If you have to open up the axle housing and replace the pads you will be in for a surprise as 2510's use different brake pads than the rest (smaller) and they are hard to get and very expensive. Do not mix and match current Deere parts with older or used ones as they changed the thickness of several of the parts. Last one that I did we got a set of 3020 pad plates and used them rather than the 2510 ones.We also had to have a shop drill the big back plate so we could rivit new 3020 pads on that as well. Cost less and gives you a larger brake pad. Tom

2510-20 brake pads are available aftermarket. They have only 4 rivets per pads instead of 6.
