John Deere m 2 cylinder.

I posted on here a couple of says ago about my John Deere M having a leak that I thought was the front engine seal.

Tractor hadn't been run in 4 years. Got it fired. Had a leak at the front of the tractor that I thought was front engine seal.

After i got the hood and grill off i can see it is not the front seal it is the hyraulic pump. I have run the tractor off and on for the last couple of days. Leak is now down to just a drip every now and then.

What are the odds of this seal in the hydraulic pump to completely stop leaking?

I know I should probably get the pump off and replace the seal. Just wishful thinking.

Thanks.

If the tractor sat, and it is the original leather seal in the TOM pump, it is dry rotted. I would say not at all likely it is going to re-seal itself. Mine didn't.

I think the pump seal would put oil into the crankcase.
Is there a gasket between the pump and engine or am I
thinking about something else?

Try tightening the nut on the lines. The big one has a slip on rubber seal. If it has to be changed just loosen the lines and lift them up. Slide the old off and new on.

take a look t the slip on return line seal M Man referenced while you are at it. i would replce it for the hey of it while things re so accessible.

Bob,
If the oil is leaking outside it's not the seal. If you are seeing your crankcase being over full then it's the seal. The seal leaks internally not outside. My money is on the rubber seal on the suction line. It's either loose or rotted and needs to be replaced. I suppose it could be the gasket where the pump bolts to the front cover but that would be rare in my mind. Good Luck!
