Factory 3 pt hitch for JD A

Dad noticed in an auction listing this coming saturday that there's a factory 3 pt hitch listed for my A. Whats it worth and is it any better than the aftermarket kits.

like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Deere-Point-Hitch-Conversion-models/dp/B00S09E4G4

If it goes cheap I might buy it. But really for what Im doing with the tractor the $400 amazon one would probably work just fine. What do you guys think?

Frank,
The A never came with 3-point hitch that I'm aware of. They had a 801, or 801-A hitch that was close to three point but wasn't the same.

Thats what I was thinking. If it is the 801 or 801-a hitch that you are talking about, what exactly is different about it?

just found a listing for one on ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/John-Deere-Tractor-3-point-Hitch-3pt-A-B-G-50-60-70-Complete/113259562890?hash=item1a5ecbc78a:g:tQcAAOSwNhpa81Ic

It looks like it may be worth about $1000-$1500 depending on what shape it is in. It is definitely much beefier than than the amazon aftermarket setup. But you are right.. the top link set up is different. But it would still work on modern equipment correct?

I think $ 600 for a factory 800 series hitch is more realistic. That is all I was able to get out of the last one I sold.

There were three 800 series hitches; 800, 800A and 801. The hitch on eBay is an 800A. I think it's over
priced. On a good day a complete 801 in good shape might bring that much.

The draft links on 800 series hitches telescope to make hooking up an implement less difficult. Quite often
the draft links are "frozen" and won't telescope. That's something to check on before you buy one.

Mother Deere specifically said the 800 series hitches were NOT to be used on A?s and B?s because their front ends did not have enough weight. They said the G was ok to use the hitch on. There are, however, multiple thousands of A?s and B?s with them mounted.

The 800 was the initial version.

The 800A was the same as the 800 with two changes. The hand crank on the right hand lift link was eliminated
and the lift link became the same as the left hand lift link. A second hole was added to the ends of the
lift cranks (rockshaft arms) to give a slight increase in lift capacity.

The 801 was the same as the 800A except the top link arms and mounting brackets and the lift cranks were
changed to give added traction as draft increased. JD called the 801 a "Traction-Trol" hitch.

The parts of all 3 hitches can be interchanged and you often see a hitch made up of a mixture of parts.

Thanks! One of my projects someday is to add hydraulics and a 3 point to my '41 A so this is good information.
