JD 40 12 volt conversion

For a 1 wire you just hook the wire to the load side of the amp gauge and your done.
 
If it was + ground with an alternator you need to switch to - ground so yes good idea to switch coil wires so the coil is also wired for - ground. It will work either way as for the coil but the spark will not be as good if left + ground at the coil.

Note the "[i:654c4848f0]original[/i:654c4848f0]" POSITIVE ground electrical system.

Also note the BLUE wire from the ignition switch to the NEGATIVE terminal on the coil.

If the 12 volt conversion is to NEGATIVE ground, then connect the BLUE wire from the ignition switch to the POSITIVE terminal on the coil.
