Do the seals in the pump ever wear out to the point that the pump starts filling the crankcase with hydraulic oil? On say a John Deere 520.

I'm sure they could. Also check the power steering pump seals if you have that P.S. option.

Most definitely! Had it happen on my 40. When I took it apart the old leather seals were all dried out. Good Luck!

Yes they do. Bought a 820 30 years ago from a guy that was doing that. He told me that it was doing just that and he just wanted it gone. He had rebuilt the diesel and put new back tires on it and was done putting money into it. I took it home and got a seal from JD ( less than 10$ then ) and solved the problem. Seems to me that getting the lines off the pump was a challenge but got it done. Kendall
