Early D Throttle Adjustment

Wondering if any of you guys have some advice on adjusting the throttle linkage on my 1930 D, and if you could post a picture of what yours looks like. I don't seem to be getting the proper RPM's/throttle response. Mine I know has the incorrect spring on it, but I have the right one ordered. Do you adjust these in about the same way as an A or B, open the throttle lever and butterfly wide open and set the rod to be half a hole short of going into throttle shaft arm? Thanks for your help!

Here is what the John Deere Tractor Manual (Service Manual for early D, GP and Type E engines) says:

"The threads on the front end of this throttle rod are NOT for the purpose of changing the speed of the engine, but this adjustment is provided so that the throttle rod can be adjusted to the correct length in order that when the hand throttle lever pulls the fork and the rod back to the closed position it stops the engine. If the end of the throttle rod that is in the plunger hits the governor case it partially holds open the butterfly of the carburetor."

Hope this helps.
