4050 Tractor PTO

Just purchased a 4050 Tractor. The PTO runs when the tractor is running, unless under load. Having to stop the tractor every time to hook and unhook machines is a pain. Is there just an adjustment? Or is it something more intense?

Make sure the PTO linkage at the valve does not have dirt/crap around it so the valve can stroke the full range it should. If it not that and someone use the PTO trying to stop heavy coasting PTO loads then your looking at splitting the tractor to replace the PTO brake.

Does it hurt to use Tractor this way? Or is it something that needs immediate attention?

It will not hurt to operate tractor with a non operating pto brake BUT use extreme caution when operating.
