LI steering post

I will be working on putting the LI steering back together next weekend.

The steering post has an almost perfect 7/8" hole, the shaft is about 3/4", there is no bushing and book shows none.

Have you ever seen a hole worn almost perfectly round?

I am probably going to make and press in a bushing to get rid of the slop.

David it might have had a bushing at an earlier time an it has worn enough to fall out. I know I have made bushings for a lot of JD and IH steering systems over the years.

That makes me wonder if someone made a bushing like you said.

The hole is just too perfect.

Adding a bushing will take the strain off the box. A thin felt washer under it to keep out dirt wouldn't be a bad idea if possible.

Did you find a bearing for the box?

I believe there is a bushing. I forgot the part number. I will see if I can find it but I got a few from MSC Supply with the correct dimensions except for the length. Simply cut, deburr and all is good. I have repaired a few of my L's.
Leroy at johndeerel.com has them also.
