What is a Normal oil pressure on a JD model H? The owner says it only has 5-10 lbs oil pressure and is kinda hard starting. Rebuild Time????

The "H", along with most of the other letter-series two-cylinder tractors, had a specified oil pressure of 10-15 PSI at fast idle. There is an oil pressure adjustment screw on the oil pump that can be accessed through a pipe plug on the lower right side of the crankcase. However, neither slightly low oil pressure nor "hard starting" are definite signs that an engine needs to be rebuilt.

Thanks for the info fella's

Just my .02 worth, and apart from the pressure issue, for "Hard Starting" I'd be inclined to initially suspect carb and/or magneto.
Also, and not to be offensive, do you know HOW to start your H ? ( I'm assuming it's hand start? )
That sounds mean, but seriously, it took me a YEAR to finally "get" the process and sequence of starting my '41 B. They all seem to have such a unique
personality. Getting the feel, "ear" and temperament of my gal was the process that took the longest.

Rebuild time? How hard is it to turn over (compression).
Most like to be started with throttle all the way back
and no choke.
I cranked myself to death til I found that out.

The tractor is a 100 miles away and belongs to a guy selling it. I plan on seeing it later today. The guy says it's a little cantankerous in starting... maybe just the way he's trying to start it.... who knows.

No offense taken Bob... my neighbor has a 37 JD AR so I do know the process in starting
