Update on LI

I am planning to put a finish coat on the frame and engine next weekend, then put engine back in.

The engine was leaking oil from the plate that held the front main seal on. I took the plate off and found that the threads on the front plate on engine were displaced out from over torquing the bolts, which I assume was from previous owners trying to get it not to leak. I filed those off smooth, changed the seal and put Indian head on it the gasket before reinstalling.

I have not been able to find the replacement roller bearings for the steering gear, as the JD cross over number is not the right bearing. The rollers are rough, and when I take shims out to preload, it gets sticky. I will either have to put together loose like it was, have it sticky or continue to look for the correct bearings. I have the rollers out right now, will measure it up, so I can check the specifications. This bearing is different as the inner shaft is tapered to fit the inside rollers.

The right radiator bracket got bent badly when the frame fell off the forks while moving it. The owner straightened the bracket back out, but I checked radiator alignment before getting ready to paint and that bracket is off by 3/4". I cannot see anywhere the extra space went, but will cut that bracket off today, set the radiator, and bolt bracket to the radiator so I can make a spacer to fit right.

Here is a picture of the radiator mounted after bracket moved.
