Tractor has been cranking fine no issues at all. Then all of a sudden started dragging some when turning over then nothing at all when stepping on the starter pedal. First thought was battery is weak(even though bought this spring). Removed the battery clamps cleaned them and the terminals also the ground since it is 6 volt put the charger on and it showed full charge. Thought it might be a ground issue but grounded a test light to the ground where it bolts to the frame and have juice all the way to the starter. Suggestions on what else to try or check? Thanks

It happen to on my 51 model A. It was starter is weak. So I put rebuilt starter in it and the tractor starts right up. I believe your starter need to be rebuilt.

Could be bad brush or armature. Your starter # should be 1108950. Next step is probably to remove it and bench test it. Careful in doing so its very heavy. Put starter tightly in a vice and connect the pos (red) cable to the top button switch and neg (black) cable to the starters case and push the switches button. Should spin fast and smooth.

If there is power at the starter switch, then push the button to engage the starting motor.

If the starting motor does engage, then check and/or adjust the starting motor pedal and linkage.

If the starting motor does not engage, then remove the starter switch.

Briefly touch the battery cable to the stud terminal.

If the starting motor does not engage, then remove the starter.

If the starting motor does engage, then check both the starter switch terminal and stud terminal for excessive wear.

Take a look at the photo below of the starter switch.

Check for excessive wear on the leading edge of the starter switch terminal.

If the starter switch terminal is worn excessively, then replace the starter switch.

Take a look at the photo below of an excessively worn stud terminal.

If the stud terminal is worn excessively, then replace the stud terminal.

Hope this helps.

"since it is 6 volt"??

It's been over 40 years since we've had an A around here, but I want to think the two we had were 12 volt.
