Early John Deere B service manual

Where can I obtain a service manual specific to the early unstyled B? I have one (re-print) but it is for #96000 and up. Lots of nice drawings and explanations in there, but a lot of it does not match up with my tractor's parts.

Good news Amtrac.

There is in fact an "Instruction and Parts List" for the Unstyled B. Now days it would be called an operators manual. It also has some service manual info. The parts list section has a list of p/n's by component but no drawings of the parts. The front cover shows it to be Dir. No. 112 with a date of December 1934.

I have the owners manual that came with my 1935 JD-B when new and it is all the manual I need to do any thing I need to do to and with that tractor. In those years the owners manual was also the shop manual and parts manual. I keep it in a plastic bag in my file box because it is so fragile if you sneeze on it you will rip a page. My B is model number 9405 and has been in the family since 1940 when my grand father got it. I played on it as a kid and my grand kids have played on it. That is 5 generation on the same tractor

Well that is not true but also sort of true. The owners manual of that time was in fact also the shop manual and parts manual and owners manual. I have the manual that came with my 1935 JD-B when it was new and it covers every thing from parts to rebuilding the engine.

I don't know but I do know it is the owners manual that came with my 1935 JD-B when it was new and it has every thing a person would need to do any thing needed. It is not very thick but it tell a person every thing and in simple English at that. But back in 1935 the Farmer did not know much about engines and how they worked so the owners manual had to be such that they could understand it

Does the cover of your manual say "Instruction and Parts List" and does the bottom edge of the cover say "Dir. No. 112 (12-34)" ? Is it 32 pages long?

I have not looked at it in years. It is so fragile and also in a file box under a stack of manuals 2 foot tall. The front cover is not in good shape any more so not sure if that info is there or not. Owners manual or operates manual either way it what was given to the farmer who brought the tractor when new and then when it was sold to my grandfather it came with the tractor and when my dad got it the manual came with it and now that I have it I have the manual and tractor. Has the parts list and part number to boot

SM 2004 is the only true "service manual" for the "B" and yes is for 96000and up. The other is an op manual and shows basic maintenance and some minor repair service but not even close to in depth as the 2004.
