iirc the service manual covers that .

Yes the manual does cover that. It says long hub to the rear. If you don't have a manual it would be money well spent if you are keeping the tractor. Get a JD manual, new, used, or reprint.

Do you have the info and set gauge to adjust the pressure plate fingers? This is not in most manuals.

Saying that the service manual is not a good idea ?

rick deere,

Agreed books don't always help, but often they do, in this case it did. If the book has the information one can move ahead without waiting for someone to reply to the question. A book is one tool of many to have.

In the case of your issue I wonder if the composition of the material has changed slightly as things were "improved", making them less pliable and more difficult to install than when these the tractors were built. That along with how long they have been on a shelf and the storage conditions may be factors in your issue given how many have failed. Heat, lube, and slow careful stretching appear to be the answer, as long as the material is good. Have you tried warming them in an oil bath? I have had better luck on some seals with oil than water for some reason, maybe it adds a bit more lube. Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I just wanted to say that yes I do have manual SM 2019, if you feel any others would be helpful please let me know.
I have been reading about the Clutch Pressure Plate (R2575) adjustments. I see where the old one could be adjusted, but I don't see anyway of adjusting the new one. ANY comments?
By the way, we have a reverser and NO continuous running PTO.

Some pressure plates have clips over the adjusting screws which have to be pried off, if finger adjustments need to be made (the clips are not shown on the pressure plates in the bulletin). Ideally I would put them back on after the fingers are set, others will say they are not needed. Does yours have the clips on the ends of the fingers covering the adjusting screws/bolts?

Yes, it has clips on it. I now see the clips are removable. The old one didn't have clips.
