70 and grinding feed

Hey all. Quick question on the capabilities on my 70. Can it successfully handle grinding/mixing feed with an international grinder/mixer? Wondering if I need to get a bigger tractor to run it. Thanks!

You might check the operator's manual for the horsepower requirement for the grinder/mixer.

Compare the grinder/mixer horsepower requirement to the <a href="http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/0/3/37-john-deere-70.html">Model 70 horsepower</a>.

Hope this helps.

We ran one with a 630 and it didn't have any problem with the coarse screen. The only thing that would drag it down was if we ground hay in the ration, had to feed it slow. But if it was after supper sometimes the manifold would glow red if we really shoveled it in. A 4 cylinder like a 2020 or a Super M seemed to do better than a 2 cylinder though , a 70 should do fine if you take your time.

It all depends on what your grinding. Ear corn with a 1/2 inch screen would work it. Shelled corn with a 3/8 screen no issue. Shelled corn with an 1.8 screen would work it.

I also do not like the JD two cylinders on PTO implement that take lots of power. The power pulses make the drive line vibrate.

I started out farming with a JD "G" and Ford 6000. If I used the JD "G" on the grinder mixer much I would have to replace the U joints more.
