F145H to 720 initial settings

hoping to find time to do some plowing in the next week or so and am wondering if any one can suggest some measurements or settings to start with so i don't have to spend a bunch of time in the field making adjustments. the plow is a 4 bottom 16" F145H with the hydraulic landing hitch, the tractor is a 720 diesel.

i have operators manuals for F145H plow and one for F135A and F145A plows. the book for the "A plows" says my rear wheels should be 30" from center to inside edge with the hitch i have, the "H" book doesn't mention anything about the hydraulic landing hitch in the wheel spacing section.

where is a good length to start at on the lift links? books just list lengths for new gen tractors but looking at them its basically one side should be 1" longer than the other.

any other advise to help me be as ready as possible when i head to the field?

Well, I am by no means the expert but my comments are.

I find the 145 plow manual to be pretty good.

You also might want to consult Dave Wolf's, The Plow Guy, Books. http://mrbtractors.com/

If I remember correctly for a 4x16" plow you would want the center to inside tire to be 32" based on pulling the plow in the center of it's draft. But, that also depends on how you have the plow hitch positioned on the plow frame, I hope you know what I mean. The JD plow book gives you measurements for that. Ya, I am not clear why the JD plow book says 30". I ran into that on my 4200 rollover plow. The book said one thing and I found the draft centerline calculation worked better after I returned to the shop and re-adjusted the wheels on the axle to position the plow centerline in the center of the tractor.

As for the hydraulic side hill hitch I do my calculations with the cylinder in the center of it's stroke.

I consider myself a novice so I certainly defer to other opinions. Maybe I am not taking into account side draft. Anyway, I would really be interested in other comments as well.

I have Dave's video that I have been watching these last few nights it is helpful. I'm going to find the part in the video about finding the center of draft and do the calculation but looking at the plow and doing a little more measuring I think that 32" will work better than 30" 32" will move my hubs all the way to the end of the axle and my front wheels are at 31.5" to 32" from center of tractor to inside edge so I think right now I'm going to set it at 32"

I understand what your referring to with the hitch position, that's where I came up with the 30" spacing to start with because in the book for A series plows based on where the hitch is on the plow it suggests 30" spacing but looking at things I don't think that will be enough. and I don't think I have to be perfect with the hydraulic landing hitch but I'm sure the closer to center I can be the better things will work.
